Resumen

This essay traces the development of certain cinematic, operatic and other musical works which feature or are derived from aspects of Pablo Neruda's life and historical oeuvre. These newer forms of cultural expression can be regarded  as elements of Neruda's literary/cultural afterlife or 'Post-Nerudaism'. These phenomena now act as a kind of refractory mirror through which new generations 'experience' Neruda or may come to approach his works.  The works dealt with in this essay include the 'Ardiente Paciencia/Il Postino' genre of cinematic and operatic works, and musical adaptations of sections of Neruda's Canto General variously by Aparcoa, Mikis Theodorakis and Los Jaivas.
