Abstract
This essay argues that for all his efforts and in spite of the many forays into the political atmosphere in the Dominican Republic in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Díaz's novel does not fully trascend the personal and therefore places the political as secondary at best, or, at worst, discards it completely.
