Abstract

In this article we analyze the experience of the project "Cartografías íntimas en comunidad", a research-intervention proposal on local memory carried out in 2022  with 16-18 year old students in secondary schools in working-class suburbs of Buenos Aires. We first focus on the development of the project as an immersive experience and on the theoretical approach of its design. Then, we analyze some of the work done by the participants in different workshops (murals, podcasts, fanzines, and memories and archive) to reflect on the productivity of a multidirectional and affective intervention model. We particularly highlight the experience in Santa Catalina natural reserve, a large natural space in the district, which allowed us to investigate the possibility of thinking about historical time more broadly and to intervene in different ways of conceiving spaces. We conclude with a series of proposals for the transmission of the traumatic past. We are guided by the following questions: Can the crossover between intimate, community and local experiences enable the production of novel narratives on state violence and its relations with the present? What role do intimacy and community play in the teaching and elaboration of memories of past violence, especially in generations that no longer have personal contact with these events? In short, how do the local, the intimate and the community contribute to what we can call pedagogies of memory?
