Abstract

Throughout this interview, we speak with the writer and activist of Honduran origin Cinthya Maldonado Méndez, who has already published two literary works in which she depicts the edges of the migratory phenomenon of Latin American women in today's Spain through both her own experience and the ones her compatriots told her. Mujeres migradas (2018) and Emociones diversas (2019) are her two published works so far, although she is about to put out her third book, delayed by the pandemic, La Iridiscencia del Colibrí. Maldonado is one of the local writers in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat through the association L’Hospitalet Escriu and is co-founder of the group Mujeres Desde el Arte; Likewise, she has the recognition of being a distinguished visitor of the city of El Progreso Yoro (Honduras) or the Golden Prize to the creative Latin woman (Spain), among others.

We therefore discuss with her about literature as an artistic response to the sociological events of the present time, such as the female migratory experience and the violence associated with it; the textual genesis of testimony as political activism; or the editorial paradigm shift that is taking place because of the development of technology and social networks in which the authors may make their work known.

Licenciado en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea UPV/EHU (Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera 2011/2012) y Máster en Literatura Comparada y Estudios Literarios por la Universidad homónima (Trabajo Final de Máster galardonado con la única Matrícula de Honor que emite el tribunal académico de dicho Máster de forma anual, y Premio al Mejor Alumno de la Promoción 2012/2013) cuenta, además, con una sólida formación en las TICs aplicadas a la docencia (a través de cursos de formación especializada en las Universides de Cantabria, Illes Balears o Salamanca) así como en la atención al alumnado con características psico-educativas específicas. Actualmente es investigador en formación del Gobierno vasco/Eusko Jaurlaritza y realiza su Tesis doctoral bajo la dirección de la profesora titular y especialista en literatura hispanoamericana María José Martínez Gutiérrez en el Departamento de Filología Hispánica, Románica y Teoría de la Literatura de la Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea UPV/EHU.

Ha sido profesor de Educación Secundaria, así como profesor de Literatura Hispanoamericana I y II en la Facultad de Letras de Vitoria-Gasteiz  (Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea UPV/EHU) y ha presentado comunicaciones científicas en las Universidades españolas de Murcia, Granada, Isabel I de Castilla (Burgos), Valladolid y varias en la Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, así como en Universidades internacionales como The City College University of New York (Manhattan, Nueva York, Estados Unidos de América) o Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal). De igual modo, ha sido miembro científico y colaborador en las IV y V Jornadas de Literatura Hispanoamericana de la Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea UPV/EHU y ha moderado el debate bilingüe inglés-español “Triangulaciones atlánticas” celebrado en la antes mencionada The City College University of New York.

Ha publicado un gran número de recensiones críticas sobre obras de ficción narrativa latinoamericana actuales, así como de teoría sociológica, en revistas científicas españolas (Mitologías Hoy -Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona- o Imagonautas Revista Interdisciplinaria sobre Imaginarios Sociales -Universidad de Vigo-) e internacionales (Valenciana. Estudios de Filosofía y Letras -Universidad de Guanajuato, México-); asimismo, ha publicado entrevistas a diversos escritores y académicos ligados al mundo literario, político e histórico; comunicaciones científicas en actas de congresos dirigidos al análisis, la difusión y la aplicación docente de la literatura hispanoamericana (entre ellos, en la página web del Instituto Cervantes), artículos de naturaleza filológica (Kamchatka. Revista de Análisis Cultural – Universitat de València- o Eviterna. Revista Universitaria de Humanidades, Arte y Cultura -Universidad de Málaga-) y capítulos en libros como el caso de “Pedro Juan Soto, testimonio literario: (des) integración cultural y exclusión social del pueblo boricua en Estados Unidos” en América Latina y el Caribe, entre la encrucijada hemisférica y los nuevos retos globales (Diego Borrajo Valiña et al., Bilbao: Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, 2015, pp. 394-404). Por otro lado, es corrector de artículos de diversas revistas de índole literario y sociológico.

Recientemente, ha realizado una estancia de investigación predoctoral, gracias a la beca EGONLABUR 2016, que le ha sido otorgada por el Gobierno vasco/Eusko Jaurlaritza, en la Universidad de Puerto Rico/University of Puerto Rico (Estado Libre Asociado de los Estados Unidos) bajo el auspicio del catedrático en literatura puertorriqueña don Fernando Feliú Matilla. En la misma ha entrevistado a personalidades de la vida académica e intelectual de la Isla como la escritora, miembro de la Generación de escritoras puertoriqueñas de 1970 y viuda de Pedro Juan Soto, Carmen Lugo Filippi; el investigador del prestigioso Seminario Federico de Onís, Mario O. Ayala Santiago; o la profesora, escritora y miembro de número de la Real Academia de la Lengua Española de Puerto Rico, Mercedes López-Baralt. Asimismo, ha realizado diversas labores de investigación literaria y sociológica en la Facultad de Humanidades de dicha Universidad, así como en el Centro de Estudios Avanzados del Caribe y Puerto Rico, ubicado en el Viejo San Juan.

1. Author hereby grants, transfers, and assigns to A Contracorriente:

(a) the exclusive first serial rights in the Work for publication and distribution throughout the world, as A Contracorriente sees fit, in all languages and formats, by print or any electronic means, including, without limitation, the internet, other public and/or private proprietary intranets and computer networks and on CD-ROMs, DVDs and other discs, before the Work shall appear in any other publication (whether print or electronic), in any manner, format or language, or in any other medium now known or hereafter devised. The first serial rights granted to A Contracorriente by this Paragraph 1(a) shall be exclusive to A Contracorriente until one year following the date of the first serial publication of the Work by A Contracorriente; in addition, this grant of rights shall include the non-exclusive right in perpetuity to include the Work in any collection, or compilation produced or authorized by A Contracorriente, and containing at least 75% material that has appeared in A Contracorriente, for distribution throughout the world, in all languages and formats, by print or any electronic means, including, without limitation, the internet and other public and proprietary intranets and computer networks and on CDROMs, DVDs and other discs;

(b) further, the non-exclusive right to authorize, reproduce and distribute reprints of the Work throughout the world, in all languages and formats, by print or any electronic means, after the Work appears in a publication produced or authorized by A Contracorriente; the right to permit subscribers and other users of the services and publications in which the Work may appear electronically to download, reproduce, and otherwise utilize the Work for their personal, non-commercial use throughout the universe; and the non-exclusive perpetual right, throughout the world, to use the Work, in whole or in part, and Author’s name, likeness, or biography in promoting, advertising, and/or publicizing any publication in which the Work is authorized to appear consistent with this Agreement.

2. A Contracorriente reserves the right to publish the Work with illustrations and other graphic materials. Nothing contained herein shall obligate A Contracorriente to exploit any of the rights granted to A Contracorriente hereunder. All rights not granted to A Contracorriente are reserved to Author for Author’s own use and/or transfer, assignment, or disposition.

3. Author represents and warrants: the Work is original to Author, has not been copied in whole or in part, and does not infringe upon the copyright or any other rights of any person or entity; Author has the right to grant the rights granted to A Contracorriente under this Agreement free of any and all claims and encumbrances; Author has not granted or transferred any rights in or to the Work to any third party; and Author has not done and will not do anything that has impaired, might impair or will impair in any way any of the rights granted to A Contracorriente hereunder.

4. Author shall defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the NC State and its employees, agents, affiliates, successors, licensees, and assigns from and against all claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses, including, without limitation, attorney’s fees and costs, arising out of any breach or alleged breach of any of Author’s representations, warranties, or agreements. Any remedies that Author may have against A Contracorriente for breach of this Agreement shall be limited to the right to recover damages, if any, in an action at law. Author hereby waives any right or remedy in equity, including any right to terminate this Agreement, to rescind A Contracorriente’s rights in the Work, or to enjoin, restrain, or otherwise impair in any manner the production or distribution of any publication that is authorized or produced by A Contracorriente.

5. A Contracorriente shall have the right to assign this Agreement, either in whole or in part, to any entity affiliated with A Contracorriente or to any party that acquires all or substantially all of A Contracorriente's assets. Author shall not have the right to further assign any of the rights conferred pursuant to this Agreement, either in whole or in part, or any of the rights granted to Author herein.

6. This Agreement is intended by the parties hereto as the final expression of their understanding with respect to the subject matter herein, as a complete and exclusive statement of the terms herein, and supersedes any and all prior or contemporaneous negotiations, understandings, and agreements between the parties relating thereto.

7. The Agreement may be modified only by a writing signed by both parties to the Agreement. The laws and courts of the State of North Carolina shall govern and control the resolution of any and all conflicts and disputes that may arise hereunder.
