El golpe de Estado: transformación histórica y contrato neoliberal

  • Sergio Villalobos-Ruminott University of Michigan

Abstract

This text represents a historical problematization of the habitual readings of the Coup d'état in Chile, by showing how it was instrumental in the foundation of a new type of neoliberal social contract, which replaces the liberal democratic pact of the 20th century, and inscribes the national and continental situation on the horizon of neoliberal globalization. Attending to this process of foundation and metamorphosis of sovereignty is crucial to understand the conflictive social dynamics in the country and the region and to appreciate the degree of devastation that neoliberal governmentality implies in its own performance. Finally, the text tries to show that neoliberal management cannot but generate riots and social crises, but that its flexibility allows it to capitalize on said crises, always reconstituting itself as a form of managerial governmentality.
