Abstract

In this article, we historicize the evolution of salary determination mechanisms during the first post-dictatorship government while the suspension of collective agreements remained in effect (1983-1988). First, we review the implications of the wage crisis that began in the mid-1970s , and the way in which the military dictatorship suspended collective agreements and administered wages. Then, we review the wage determination mechanisms developed during the period that concerns us and the responses they generated in the labor movement and the business sector. Third, we discuss the relationship between the evolution of these mechanisms, wages and productivity, to assess their performance. Finally, we evaluate their role as labor conflict channeling mechanisms.
