Abstract

This article analyzes the influence of marxism in the historiography of Costa Rica. It starts by looking at the emergence and the development of historic investigation in the country and the challenges raised by the Communist Party until 1940. Next, it explains the late upbringing of an academic marxism in Costa Rica. Finally, it examines the influence of various marxist trends in the historiographic renovation that took place after 1970 and the potentials and limitations of these historic studies.
